Emergency crews rushed to King Street, Oldham, after a building surrounded by scaffolding partially collapsed earlier today. Two people were hospitalised, though their injuries are not considered serious.

Terraced Building Crumbles Amid Rescue Efforts

  • The collapse happened around 12:40 GMT.
  • Five occupants inside escaped safely, Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed.
  • Police have closed roads and advised the public to steer clear amid the emergency response.

North West Ambulance Service deployed three ambulances, an air ambulance, and a hazardous area response team, alongside doctors and paramedics.


 

Eyewitness Describes Chaos

“All the emergencies were there already when I arrived,” said local businessman Kwok Wong, who owns Ree Ming Chippy in Royton. “The building was a mess. Air ambulances landed on top of Mecca Bingo roof.”

A GMFRS spokesperson said: “At around 12:4 this afternoon, Tuesday 24 March, three fire engines from across Greater Manchester were called to an incident involving a collapsed building on King Street, Oldham.”
