The cost of a standard UK passport is set to smash through the £100 barrier for the first time ever. New government plans will hike fees from 8 April 2026, pending parliamentary approval.
Price Hikes Across the Board
- Standard adult passport applied online in the UK will rise £7.50 – from £94.50 to £102.
- Child passports jump by £5, reaching £66.50.
- Postal applications cost more: adults at £115.50, children at £80.
- One-day premium service soars to £239.50 for UK applicants.
Government Defends the Soaring Charges
The Home Office insists these price increases are part of a shift towards funding passport services mainly through user fees rather than general taxation.
“The government does not make a profit from passport fees,” officials stressed.
The charges are designed to cover processing costs, consular support for Brits abroad—including help with lost or stolen passports—and managing border services.
