Stuart McDonald has been appointed as the new treasurer for the Scottish National Party (SNP) after Colin Beattie resigned amidst an investigation into the party’s finances, though Beattie was released without charge

McDonald was selected by the party’s National Executive Committee and will remain in the post until the next annual conference. SNP leader Humza Yousaf had been temporarily fulfilling the role.

The police operation into the SNP’s finances, Operation Branchform, was launched in July 2021 after complaints were made about how donations were used; former SNP chief executive Peter Murrell was arrested earlier this month but was released without charge.
