Two Women Die in Separate Incidents at Cornish Beaches

The first tragedy occurred shortly after 12:30pm on Sunday at Portreath beach, near St Ives, when emergency services were called following reports that a woman in her 50s had been pulled from the sea in suspected cardiac arrest. Despite the efforts of RNLI lifeguards and paramedics, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Later the same afternoon, at around 4.20pm, police were called to Porthcothan beach, near Padstow, amid concerns for a woman who had gone swimming and failed to return. She was discovered face down in the water and could not be revived.

Devon and Cornwall Police said neither woman has yet been formally identified. Officers have launched inquiries into both incidents.

A police spokesperson said:

“Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of both women at this incredibly difficult time. There is no indication that the two incidents are connected.”

The deaths come during the busy summer holiday season, with thousands of visitors flocking to Cornwall’s beaches. Authorities are reminding swimmers to stay within lifeguarded zones, follow safety advice, and be mindful of sea conditions.
