After their captivating escapades in the picturesque landscapes of Sicily earlier this year, the dynamic dancing duo of Anton Du Beke and Giovanni Pernice are once again dusting off their passports. This time, they’re venturing into the vibrant heart of Spain to share their love for the country’s culture, cuisine, and of course, dancing!
Made by BBC Studios Entertainment Productions, this time it’s Anton’s turn to shine as he introduces Giovanni to the myriad delights that the southern European gem of Spain has to offer. There will be no siestas on this trip, for Anton’s lifelong connection with Spain has fuelled his excitement to unveil a world of adventures to Giovanni, ranging from surfing to sipping sangrias, and from festivals to flamenco.
Anton Du Beke, the charismatic host of this journey, expressed his delight, saying, “My loves, it is such a treat for me to be able to take my dear friend Giovanni to a country that I hold so close to my heart. What a joy it is to be able to share this marvellously jovial jaunt with both Gio and all the wonderful viewers watching at home. Magnifico!”
Giovanni Pernice, equally thrilled about this escapade, couldn’t help but reminisce, “I am so excited to be heading out for more adventures with my best friend Anton on this epic road trip across Spain, I just hope we manage to avoid being stopped by the police this time!”
Mel Balac, Creative Director at BBC Studios, teased the upcoming adventure, saying, “We’re thrilled to be following the boys on another epic and intimate adventure. Hold tight for plenty of laughs, a few tears, and some new-look song and dance numbers in the Spanish sunshine.”
Kalpna Patel-Knight, Head of Entertainment Commissioning at the BBC, also expressed her excitement, “Our dancing duo are hitting the road once again, and with Anton having a genuine love for the country that he wants to showcase to Giovanni, Spain is the perfect place for the boys to explore on their next adventure.”
Their first collaboration, “Anton and Giovanni’s Adventures in Sicily,” waltzed into the hearts of viewers earlier this year. With an average audience of 3.1 million tuning in for its debut, and a remarkable 548,000 catching it on iPlayer, the duo proved to be a winning combination. This marked the 10th biggest audience for an Entertainment series across the BBC in 2023 and the 10th biggest iPlayer audience for an Entertainment commission this year.
For those who missed their Sicilian sojourn, the first series, “Anton and Giovanni’s Adventures in Sicily,” is available to watch now via BBC iPlayer.
The eagerly awaited “Anton and Giovanni’s Adventures in Spain” will grace screens in 2024 on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, promising to bring the magic of Spain and the charm of these two charismatic dancers right into our living rooms.
“Anton and Giovanni’s Adventures in Spain” (3 x 60) is a BBC Studios Entertainment production for the BBC, commissioned by Kalpna Patel-Knight, Head of Entertainment Commissioning.
