For the first time since Donald Campbell CBE’s tragic death on Coniston Water in 1967, his record-breaking hydroplane, Bluebird K7, is to be reunited with the prestigious World Water Speed Trophy. The reunion will take place at the Royal Motor Yacht Club (RMYC) in Poole.
The World Water Speed Trophy, which has been awarded to the fastest boat on water for the past 87 years, will be displayed alongside Bluebird K7 at a special event on Friday, 4 October at 10:30 am. Media representatives are invited to attend the picture call at RMYC, where they will have the chance to photograph this historic reunion.
The event will also feature the opportunity to speak with key figures including Gina Campbell, the daughter of Donald Campbell; Don Wales, grandson of Malcolm Campbell; representatives from the Ruskin Museum, which serves as the custodian of the famous Bluebird K7; and RMYC Commodore Graham Turner.
Donald Campbell broke numerous world water speed records in Bluebird K7 before his tragic accident in 1967. The hydroplane has since become an icon of British engineering and bravery, and its reunion with the World Water Speed Trophy is a significant moment for Campbell’s family and all those who have worked to preserve his legacy.
The Royal Motor Yacht Club in Poole, as custodian of the World Water Speed Trophy, is honoured to bring these two symbols of world record achievement together again, celebrating Campbell’s lasting impact on the world of speed records and commemorating his extraordinary career.
