The music entrepreneur, who helped launch Dave and Ed Sheeran’s careers, died in February at the age of 31.
Brenda Edwards, a Loose Women panellist, said in a statement on Tuesday that she was in “shock” after learning how he died.
I have recently learned that Jamal’s tragic death was caused by cardiac arrhythmia,” she wrote.
“[This was] caused by the use of recreational drugs, and I wanted to apologise to everyone who loved, admired, and respected my son.
I’ve been in a state of shock since learning the news, and I’m still trying to process it.
“But it’s so important to me that I address it because no mother or loved one should have to go through what Jamal’s sister, Tanisha, and I have since he died.”
We have been so incredibly touched by the outpouring of love and support,” she said, adding, “and you are all helping us try to get through the unimaginable.
According to Edwards, her son had the “world at his fingertips – a zest for life, and he was unwittingly taken away far too soon.”
“Yet we must accept what has occurred, and Jamal is proof that this can happen to anyone,” she continued.
“These types of substances are extremely unpredictable, and we can only hope that this will encourage others to think wisely in the future when faced with similar situations.” His death demonstrated how a single bad decision on any given occasion can have devastating consequences. It’s critical that we continue to raise awareness about the unpredictability of recreational drugs and the impact they can have – how just one bad reaction can destroy lives.”
