This week marks a pivotal moment in the legal proceedings surrounding the tragic murder of 23-year-old school teacher Ashling Murphy. Josef Puska, 32, residing at Lynally Grove, Mucklagh, Co Offaly, faces charges of murdering Ms. Murphy in Tullamore in January 2022.
The Central Criminal Court is set to initiate pre-trial legal arguments this week, with Prosecuting counsel Anne Marie Lawlor indicating that this phase is expected to span two weeks. Following this, a jury will be sworn in for a trial anticipated to last approximately six weeks in total.
The proceedings are scheduled to commence on Wednesday morning under the guidance of Mr. Justice Tony Hunt. Ashling Murphy, a primary school teacher and accomplished musician, tragically lost her life while jogging along the Grand Canal in Tullamore on January 12, 2022.
