First Look At Channel 4’s Thriller “truelove” With A Twist

Channel 4 has unveiled the first look images for “Truelove,” a thrilling series with a twist, produced by Clerkenwell Films, the team behind the BAFTA award-winning series “The End of the F***ing World.” Scheduled to premiere on Channel 4 early next year, the drama series promises an unconventional narrative crafted by the talents of Iain Weatherby (Humans) and Charlie Covell (The End of the F***ing World).

The released images showcase Lindsay Duncan (Birdman, About Time) as Phil, an ex-police chief enjoying a comfortable yet mundane retirement, and Clarke Peters (The Wire, Da 5 Bloods) as Ken, a divorcee and ex-special forces vet navigating a similarly uncertain post-retirement life. Despite the passage of time, Phil and Ken, who were teenage sweethearts, find it challenging to forget each other.

The ensemble cast also includes Sue Johnston (The Royle Family) as Marion, Karl Johnson (Mum) as Tom, Peter Egan (Downton Abbey) as David, and Kiran Sonia Sawar (Murdered by My Father) as Ayesha, a young police officer who senses there’s more to this group of friends than meets the eye. Phil Davis (Trying) joins as Nigel, and Fiona Button (The Split) as Kate.

Breaking ageist norms, “Truelove” features a core cast in their 70s, promising a series that defies expectations with thrilling twists, irreverent humour, and passionate romance. The narrative follows this group of friends who make a pact to help each other die when the time is right, challenging ethical questions about the right to end a life. The series evolves into a love story, reigniting a long-extinguished flame between two individuals who missed their chance at love in their youth.

“Truelove” is produced by Clerkenwell Films and has been commissioned by Channel 4’s Head of Drama, Caroline Hollick, and Commissioning Editor, Rebecca Holdsworth. Executive producers at Clerkenwell Films include Emily Harrison, Andy Baker, Petra Fried, Charlie Langdell, and the co-creators Charlie Covell and Iain Weatherby. Chloë Wicks and Carl Tibbetts will direct, with Alex Walsh-Taylor as the producer. BBC Studios, the sole owner of Clerkenwell Films, will handle international distribution for the series.
