Landmark Conviction in UK for Facilitating Female Genital Mutilation Overseas – UKNIP

In a historic legal development, a woman has been found guilty of facilitating an act of female genital mutilation (FGM) overseas, marking the first-of-its-kind conviction in the United Kingdom. This groundbreaking case sets a significant precedent, as it is the first time in the history of the Metropolitan Police (Met) that officers have secured a conviction for FGM occurring abroad.

Amina Noor, 39, a resident of London, was found guilty of assisting a non-UK person in mutilating the genitals of a UK female citizen overseas. This conviction comes under Section 3 of the Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) Act 2003. The verdict was delivered on Thursday, October 26, at the Old Bailey following a two-week trial.
