Speeding Biker Jailed After Woman Killed in Southwark Smash

A reckless rider who caused a fatal crash in Southwark has been locked up for 32 months. Jack Headley Gough, 28, from Welling, admitted death by dangerous driving at the Old Bailey on March 31.

Tragic Crash on Great Dover Street

The fatal collision happened on July 23, 2018, at 6.55pm, when Gough slammed his silver Suzuki into pedestrian Muriel Sanna on Great Dover Street, SE1. Emergency crews, including London’s Air Ambulance and the London Ambulance Service, rushed to the scene but could not save the French national.

Muriel, who was on holiday with her two sons, died from multiple traumatic injuries. Witnesses told police Gough was speeding wildly down a 30mph street. His victim’s body was thrown 15 metres by the impact—an image her sons will never forget.

Guilty Plea and Sentencing

Gough stopped at the scene and later recovered from his own injuries in hospital. He was charged with death by dangerous driving on September 2, 2019, and sentenced on May 29 at the Old Bailey.

The judge slammed Gough’s speed as “shockingly irresponsible,” highlighting the needless devastation caused by ignoring speed limits in busy built-up areas.

Police Warning: Stick to Limits or Face Disaster

Detective Constable Tom Matthews said: “My thoughts are with Muriel and her family who must live without her forever. I’m thankful Gough pleaded guilty and saved the family the pain of a trial.

“Great Dover Street’s 30mph limit is there for a reason. Had Gough obeyed it, this collision would never have happened. All road users must drive safely for everyone’s protection.”
