Two Teens Stabbed in Southend Beach Brawl – Essex Police Crack Down

Violence Erupts on Chalkwell Esplanade

Essex Police have ramped up patrols after a huge fight broke out near Chalkwell train station on Southend’s beach. The chaos unfolded around 7pm on Friday, July 24, when a large group clashed, some armed with weapons.

Officers swooped on the scene with backup from British Transport Police and even a police helicopter. The troublemakers scattered across the area, but the damage was done.

Two 15-Year-Olds Hospitalised with Stab Wounds

Two teenage boys, both just 15, were rushed to hospital. One suffered stab wounds to the leg along with head injuries, while the other was stabbed in the arm. Thankfully, neither are fighting for their lives.

Meanwhile, police arrested an 18-year-old from Basildon on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and drug possession. A 20-year-old man from South Ockendon was also held, suspected of affray. Both remain in custody as inquiries continue.

Stop and Search Powers Urgently Extended

To curb further violence, officers have been authorised to carry out broader stop and search operations under Section 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994. This means cops can search people in targeted areas without needing reasonable suspicion.

Initially authorised by British Transport Police near Chalkwell Railway Station, Essex Police expanded the zone to include Chalkwell Park from 8:45pm through to 6am Saturday.

Police Appeal for Witnesses

Chief Inspector Ashley Howard said: “Officers were quickly on scene to deal with the disorder and continue to work throughout the night investigating the initial incident and patrolling the area to ensure our communities are safe.”

“The additional stop and search powers will help prevent further offending and disorder, keeping people safe.”

“We would like to thank witnesses who have assisted our enquiries. Information from the public is crucial to bring offenders to justice.”

“Anyone with information about the incident should contact Southend CID on 101 quoting reference 1144 of today’s date.”
