York Man Jailed for Raping Teen Over Six Years
Adam Buckenham, 47, from Ventnor, has been convicted of eight counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault. The shocking crimes spanned from 2012 to 2018, victimising a girl aged between 12 and 18.
15 Years Behind Bars Plus Lifetime Sex Offender Registration
Buckenham’s lengthy trial kicked off at Winchester Crown Court in March. On Friday 14 July, Salisbury Crown Court handed down a 15-year prison sentence. He’ll also serve a five-year supervision order upon release and must register as a sex offender for life.
Detective Calls Victim’s Bravery “Incredible”
Detective Sergeant Steven Finnis of Hampshire’s Operation Amberstone said: “The victim, now a grown woman, has had to live with the memory of this awful abuse.”
“I commend her courage in speaking out and thank her for helping bring this case to justice.”
“We take all sexual assault claims seriously and want victims to know they will be believed and supported.”
“Anyone affected by child sexual abuse should contact police on 101 to speak confidentially with specialist officers.”
Support Available for Victims
Not everyone feels able to report abuse directly to the police. Independent support services are available for victims across Hampshire and Isle of Wight. Visit the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary website for details on where to find help.
