Thames Valley Police Swap to High-Tech Taser 7
Over the next year, Thames Valley Police will ditch their old X2 Tasers for the brand-new Taser 7. This upgrade promises to boost safety for both officers and the public in a big way.
Safer, Smarter, Deadlier – But In A Good Way
The Taser 7 is a major step up. It features two types of cartridges depending on how close the target is, making it more versatile than its predecessor. This means officers can respond more precisely in tense moments.
“Since the Home Office gave the green light to the T7, we’ve been keen to introduce it,” said Assistant Chief Constable Rob France, who oversees the joint ops unit across two forces. “Safety for our communities, especially the vulnerable, is top priority. Taser plays a vital role in that.”
“All our Taser-trained officers undergo intense training, plus regular refreshers, to ensure they use this tool lawfully and responsibly. We always try to resolve situations without force but sometimes it’s necessary to protect the public, ourselves, or the individual.”
“Every use of Taser, whether fired or just as a warning, is carefully reviewed. The public’s trust is everything to us.”
Multi-Million Pound Investment Backed by Commissioners
Police and Crime Commissioner Donna Jones hailed the new device as a game-changer for frontline safety. “This is a multi-million pound investment in both public and officer safety. I’m proud Hampshire, Isle of Wight, and Thames Valley Police are among the first to roll it out.”
She added, “The Taser 7 is faster, more accurate, and smaller than older models, with rechargeable batteries that save money over time. Since I took office 22 months ago, I’ve made sure there’s enough funding for this vital upgrade so our officers are fully equipped to handle danger.”
