Nigel Farage is under fire again. Two more Reform UK local election candidates have been exposed for racist and anti-Muslim social media posts, piling pressure on Farage to sack them ahead of May’s council elections. The Labour Party has blasted Reform’s vetting as “clearly not fit for purpose.”

Racist Slurs and Anti-Islam Rants Surface

Alan Stay, standing for Reform UK on the Isle of Wight, was caught sharing Facebook posts loaded with explicit racial slurs. Shockingly, Stay defended the language, claiming the offensive terms were “harmless.” He even used the slur repeatedly in comments defending a DJ who was fired for playing a racist record. Images of the posts show Stay dismissing the harmful nature of the words. Meanwhile, Caroline Panetta, Reform’s candidate in Bexley, outer London, has retweeted anti-Islam content that slammed Mayor Sadiq Khan for allegedly turning London into “Londonstan,” a place where women would be unsafe. Panetta herself posted that Islam is “the religion of rape, incest and paedophilia.” On top of that, she shared conspiracy theories about the George Floyd case, falsely labelling the victim a criminal and calling the police killing a miscarriage of justice.

Farage’s Vetting Under Scrutiny

These revelations come amidst a string of scandals dogging Reform candidates ahead of the 7 May polls, also affecting hopefuls for Scottish and Welsh parliaments. This despite Farage’s repeated claims that vetting had been “substantially tightened.” Labour Party chair Anna Turley said, “What will it take for Nigel Farage to finally act? Farage must condemn these vile remarks, sack them as Reform candidates and kick them out of his party without delay.”

Systemic Screening Failures Threaten Reform’s Election Hopes

The controversy spotlights a bigger problem with Reform UK’s candidate screening process. Social media histories have proven to be a minefield, but the number of Reform scandals suggests a systemic failure, not just one-off mistakes. With ballots already printed, Farage faces the very real risk of standing candidates whose views collide with the party’s official line — a nightmare for Reform just weeks out from the polls.
