Police bust huge cannabis farm in Wollaton – 150 plants seized

Major drug grow uncovered in Elvaston Road

The City West neighbourhood policing team swooped on a property in Elvaston Road, Wollaton, discovering a massive cannabis operation. Around 150 plants were found growing across two bedrooms and the loft during a raid on Thursday morning (20 April).

Electricity dangerously bypassed to fuel drug farm

Officers acted on intel suggesting drugs were being produced inside. Alongside the plants, police found the electricity supply had been illegally tampered with, posing a serious fire hazard.

Suspect charged, court dates set

Bui Van Thanh, 23, from Elvaston Road, was charged with producing a Class B drug after the bust. He appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Friday (21 April) and was remanded in custody. Thanh is due to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on 19 May 2023.

Police warn of fire risks and wider crime links

Sergeant Jordan Hinds of Nottinghamshire Police said: “Warrants like this are a vital tool to confirm criminal activity. This operation shut down a large cannabis grow that might have otherwise gone undetected.”

“We take cannabis production very seriously because it poses dangerous fire risks to communities and is often connected to wider criminality.”
