Divers Recover Body After Baltimore Bridge Disaster
Divers have recovered the body of Maynor Yasir Suazo-Sandoval, a 38-year-old construction worker, marking a grim milestone in the wake of the Baltimore bridge collapse. The tragedy unfolded on March 26 when a cargo ship smashed into the support of the Francis Scott Key Bridge.
Tragic Toll Rises to Six
Suazo-Sandoval was one of six people believed dead after the disaster. His body was found at the collapse site around 10:30am local time on Friday. Maryland State Police were alerted immediately, and his family has been notified of the heartbreaking news.
Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott said, “While I take solace in knowing this brings us one step closer to closure, my heart continues to be with all the families still waiting anxiously for their loved ones. I am grateful for the first responders who have maintained focus on recovering the remaining victims and continued their work to clear the channel with the utmost care.”
Two More Victims Found in Submerged Vehicle
The disaster also claimed the lives of two other workers. Alejandro Hernandez Fuentes, 35, from Mexico, and Dorlian Ronial Castillo Cabrera, 26, from Guatemala, were recovered from a submerged vehicle on March 27.
President Biden Visits Disaster Site
President Joe Biden flew into the collapse scene on Friday for briefings from the US Coast Guard and the Army, underscoring the national attention on the devastating incident.
