A shocking case has landed at Birmingham Crown Court as a 12-year-old boy faces trial charged with the sexual assault of a woman left fighting for her life in hospital.
Serious Charges for Boy, Just 12
The unnamed boy was charged last month after the victim was found seriously injured at a home in Birmingham. He appeared in court today, accused of wounding and sexual assault, along with a separate charge of intentional strangulation related to another incident. He did not enter a plea during the hearing. A trial date has been provisionally set for October.
Judge Sends Boy to Secure Accommodation
Judge Simon Drew KC remanded the boy to secure accommodation ahead of the next hearing on 13 August. “The case will be listed for trial on October 5th,” the judge confirmed.
Attack Dates and Police Appeal
- The alleged sex attack happened on 18 March at the woman’s home.
- The victim was rushed to the hospital in a serious condition; no update on her condition has been released.
- The strangulation charge stems from a separate street confrontation with another woman.
West Midlands Police said their enquiries continue. A spokesperson added, “We understand how concerning this will be within the community. Officers will keep reassuring the public.” Anyone with information about suspicious behaviour on or before 18 March should contact the Major Incident Public Portal or call 101, quoting log 4888 of March 18.
