A career criminal, Kane Kotwica, is on the run

Kotwica has a number of offences linked to him including trying to stab two police officers with syringes.

The 37-year-old, formerly of Longford, is now on the run, wanted for breaching the terms of his court bail. Kotwica also has connections to Gloucester and Churchdown.

The Terrifying Confrontation

In 2021 Kotwica, fuelled by alcohol, menacingly approached two police officers, brandishing a hypodermic syringe in each hand. The officers, taken aback by the life-threatening situation, issued stern warnings for him to stay back. However, Kotwica continued his advance, staring intently at the officers.

Prosecutor Caighli Taylor recounted the tense moments: “He removed the caps from the syringes, exposing the needles, and kept coming at the officers. Despite their warnings, he persisted.”

Shocking Measures

In a desperate bid to protect themselves, both officers drew their tasers. The first 50,000-volt shock failed to halt Kotwica’s menacing approach. Undeterred, he clung to the syringes. It was the second taser that finally incapacitated him, allowing the officers to disarm and apprehend him.

A Scene from the Silver Screen

Defence solicitor Matthew Harbinson likened the incident to a cinematic showdown. “Picture Indiana Jones facing a sword-wielding adversary,” he said. “Instead of engaging in a drawn-out battle, Jones calmly pulls out a gun and shoots. That’s precisely what happened here.”

Urgent Appeal for Information

Despite exhaustive efforts by Police, Kotwica remains at large. Authorities are now appealing to the public for any information that could lead to his capture. Descriptions of Kotwica include a stocky build, standing at 5 feet 9 inches, with a shaved head, brown beard, and moustache. Notably, he sports a tattoo of rosary beads around his neck and a piercing in his right ear.
