Rapist Posing as Taxi Driver Jailed for 17 Years
Nazim Asmal, 35, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison plus five years on extended licence after pleading guilty to four counts of rape at Preston Crown Court, Lancashire. Formerly of Blackburn but currently homeless, Asmal preyed on women leaving nights out by pretending to be a taxi driver to lure them into his car.
First Attack: October 2021
The nightmare began in October 2021 when Asmal picked up his first victim in Preston city centre. She believed his black Toyota Yaris was a legitimate taxi. Instead, he drove her around for 10 minutes before raping her in the car. He then dropped her off in the city, where she flagged down a passerby for help.
Second and Third Attacks: March and April 2023
In March 2023, after a night out in Darwen, another woman got into Asmal’s vehicle. He drove her to a secluded spot and assaulted her. He later managed to get her phone number and tried to contact her in early April. When she answered on April 8, she recognised his voice and hung up immediately.
That same night, Asmal struck again. Another woman entered his car in Darwen town centre. He asked, “You don’t want to pay for this taxi, do you?” before raping her and then dropping her safely at home.
Police Track Down and Arrest
Lancashire Police traced Asmal through CCTV capturing his black Toyota Yaris. Their investigation led to his arrest and eventual conviction.
Victims’ Heartbreaking Testimonies
“My life was changed forever,” said the first victim, revealing she struggles with PTSD and now avoids social situations, even feeling unsafe walking her dogs at night.
The second victim disclosed how the attack ended her relationship and left her battling stress and anxiety, especially since Asmal knew her home address.
The third victim described constant anxiety, weight loss, and feeling out of control since the assault.
Police Praise Bravery and Urge Vigilance
Lancashire Police hailed the victims’ courage for coming forward and urged anyone affected by similar attacks to report them. They stressed the need for greater safety measures for people travelling home after nights out.
Asmal’s conviction is a stark warning to predators who think they can get away with such crimes. Stay alert and stay safe.
