A man has been charged with murder following his arrest at the Notting Hill Carnival. The suspect, Kamar Williams, 33, from the Isle of Dogs, was wanted in connection with the fatal stabbing of 53-year-old Derek Thomas in Stoke Newington.
Williams was apprehended on Monday, 26 August, after detectives issued an appeal for information on his whereabouts. He was charged with both murder and possession of a knife on Tuesday, 27 August, and is scheduled to appear in custody at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 28 August.
The arrest follows a weeks-long investigation into the death of Derek Thomas, who was fatally stabbed in Stoke Newington earlier this month. Specialist officers have been supporting Derek’s family during this difficult time.
In addition to Williams’ arrest, a 30-year-old woman was taken into custody on Saturday, 3 August, on suspicion of assisting an offender. She was later released on bail as investigations continue.
The Metropolitan Police have been working diligently to bring justice to Derek Thomas and his family. The investigation remains ongoing.
