Woman Charged with Murder and Attempted Murder Following Fatal Stabbing in Bow

A 21-year-old woman has been charged in connection with the fatal stabbing of a man and the attempted murder of another woman in Bow, East London.

Fatima Umar, of Navenby Walk, E3, appeared at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 25 November. She faces charges for the murder of Alan Geary, 46, and the attempted murder of a 56-year-old woman who also sustained stab injuries. Umar has been remanded in custody and will appear at the Old Bailey on Wednesday, 27 November.

Timeline of Events

Police were first called shortly after midnight on Saturday, 23 November, following reports of a man suffering from stab injuries at a property on Navenby Walk. Emergency services, including officers and the London Ambulance Service, arrived to find Mr Geary with critical injuries. He was transported to hospital but tragically succumbed to his wounds. His next-of-kin has been informed, and a post-mortem examination has been completed.

While investigating the scene, officers were alerted to a second stabbing at another address in Navenby Walk around 3:00 a.m. A 56-year-old woman was discovered with stab injuries. She was taken to hospital, treated, and subsequently discharged.

Arrests and Charges

Three individuals—two men aged 45 and 23 and a 21-year-old woman—were initially arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. However, all three were later released without charge.

Shortly after the second incident, police arrested Fatima Umar, 21, in connection with both attacks. Following further inquiries, she was formally charged with the murder of Mr Geary and the attempted murder of the 56-year-old woman.

Investigation Ongoing

Detectives from the Specialist Crime Command are leading the investigation. Officers have not disclosed a potential motive or further details about the relationship between the accused and the victims.
