Officers Injured in Reckless Escape Attempt
The incident unfolded around 9.30am on 5 October 2024, when officers from West Midlands Police’s Guardian Taskforce — a team tackling serious youth violence — spotted Shaheeb apparently asleep behind the wheel of a VW Scirocco on Montpellier Street. The vehicle had tape obscuring part of its number plate, raising immediate suspicion. Shaheeb was ultimately arrested at the scene.Three Officers Injured
The crash resulted in injuries to three officers. One was taken to hospital for treatment, while the other two sustained minor injuries and were able to return to duty shortly after. Inside the vehicle, officers found two sets of pliers, a pair of scissors, multiple false registration plates, and a bag lined with foil — often used to block security tags — raising further concerns about Shaheeb’s intentions.Court Outcome
Shaheeb pleaded guilty to charges of dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, going equipped for theft, and other motoring offences. In addition to his 22-week jail sentence, he received a further five-year driving ban. A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “This was an incredibly dangerous situation. Shaheeb showed complete disregard for the safety of our officers and members of the public. We’re thankful the injuries sustained weren’t more serious and that he has now been brought to justice.” The case highlights the continuing efforts of the Guardian Taskforce to disrupt dangerous individuals and prevent further violence and criminality across the region.More from West Midlands Police
