Drive-Disqualified Daredevil Jailed After Smash and Dash in Birmingham
Man Rams Police Cars in Brazen Escape Bid
A 39-year-old man has landed behind bars after ploughing into multiple police vehicles in a desperate escape attempt in Birmingham last October — despite being disqualified from driving until 2027.
Mohammed Shaheeb, from Pershore Road, was sentenced to 22 weeks in prison at Birmingham Crown Court on April 17. He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, going equipped for theft, and other motoring offences.
Officers Targeted in Reckless Morning Chaos
The drama unfolded just before 9.30am on October 5, 2024, when West Midlands Police’s Guardian Taskforce, a unit focused on fighting serious youth violence, spotted Shaheeb seemingly asleep at the wheel of his VW Scirocco on Montpellier Street. Suspicion grew when officers noticed part of the car’s number plate was covered with tape.
When officers approached, Shaheeb suddenly reversed and sped off down Moseley Road. Despite a police roadblock and Taser aimed at him, he tried to make a daring getaway, forcing one officer to leap out of the way.
In his frenzied escape, Shaheeb crashed into three police cars and a member of the public’s vehicle before officers finally arrested him at the scene.
Injuries and Shocking Evidence Found
The crash left three officers injured. One needed hospital treatment, while the others returned to duty soon after.
Inside Shaheeb’s car, police uncovered a troubling arsenal: two sets of pliers, scissors, multiple false number plates, and a foil-lined bag often used to block security tags. This raised serious questions about his criminal intentions.
Justice Served with Jail and 5-Year Ban
In addition to his prison time, Shaheeb was slapped with a five-year driving ban.
“This was an incredibly dangerous situation. Shaheeb showed complete disregard for the safety of our officers and members of the public. We’re thankful the injuries sustained weren’t more serious, and that he has now been brought to justice,” said a West Midlands Police spokesperson.
This case highlights the relentless work of the Guardian Taskforce in stopping dangerous criminals and preventing violence across the region.
