Chalk Farm Blaze: Flames Rip Through Shop and Flats

A fierce fire tore through a ground-floor shop and a three-room flat above on Chalk Farm Road, Camden. Flames also damaged part of a neighbouring first-floor flat.

Firefighters Battle Scorching Conditions

Station Commander Brett Loft, at the scene, said: “Firefighters were working in extremely hot and arduous conditions to quickly put out the fire. There was a lot of smoke in the area, so residents were advised to keep their windows and doors shut. At this time, no injuries have been reported.”

High-Tech Help: 999Eye Live Stream Boosts Response

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) answered 42 calls about the blaze and used 999Eye technology to get a live video stream from a caller’s smartphone straight to Control Room screens. This increased visibility helped coordinate the firefighting effort.

When someone dials 999, they can be asked if they want to provide live footage. A secure, one-time link is sent to their phone, allowing instant video to flow to the Control Room. This tech improves situational awareness and helps crews give sharper advice based on real-time images.

Road Closures and Ongoing Investigation

  • The fire brigade was called at 12.07pm and had the blaze extinguished by 1.56pm.
  • Crews from Soho, West Hampstead, Paddington, Kentish Town, and nearby stations battled the flames.
  • Chalk Farm Road remains closed between Adelaide Road and Camden High Street while firefighters secure the site.
  • The cause of the fire is under investigation.
