Hero Cop Dives Into River to Save Two Lives in Separate Hair-Raising Rescues
PC Nick Lewis’s Brave River Rescues
PC Nick Lewis, drawing on his swim squad experience, plunged into the treacherous River Trent to save a 12-year-old girl and a woman in two nail-biting incidents.
In the first rescue, the river was racing with dangerous undercurrents. The girl, weighted down by thick woollen clothes, struggled to keep her head above water. Without hesitation, PC Lewis dived in and battled the currents to haul them both safely back to shore.
Second Rescue Ends Suicide Attempt
Just two months later, PC Lewis was called to another life-or-death situation. A woman had deliberately entered the river in a suicide attempt. The officer swiftly swam out to her despite her fierce resistance and brought her back to safety.
Award-Winning Bravery Recognised
For his fearless actions, PC Lewis received the prestigious PC Ged Walker Award at the Nottinghamshire Police Force Awards on April 25. The accolade honours Ged Walker, a brave officer killed on duty in 2003.
Remembering PC Ged Walker’s Heroism
The award commemorates STUNNING heroism, like that shown by Ged Walker. He was involved in a dramatic incident chasing a fleeing offender at Bulwell Common Golf Course, where he was tragically injured trying to stop a taxi driver speeding off. Ged’s legacy lives on through awards recognising courage in Nottinghamshire’s finest.
