Phillip Fraczek, 22, has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 20 years and four months for the murder of 79-year-old Franklin Agbotui in West Ham. The killing occurred on 15 May 2024 inside a block of flats on Plaistow Road, where Fraczek was found trying to enter multiple properties before falling asleep on the floor. Officers responded promptly after a neighbour spotted Fraczek fleeing the scene, initiating a foot chase. During his arrest two streets away on Geere Road, Fraczek’s knuckles and trainers were bloodied with forensic tests confirming the blood belonged to the victim. Despite resisting, the police successfully detained him, preserving vital forensic evidence.

Community Shaken By Attack

Detective Superintendent Kelly Allen described Franklin as a kind, retired Merchant Navy veteran known for tending the shared garden and being a pillar in the local community. She condemned the unprovoked and savage nature of the attack, which has left the neighbourhood deeply affected. The detective praised the courage of the Met officers who intervened early and brought the suspect into custody.

The family spoke of the profound emotional and practical impact of his death and the ongoing void left in their lives and the wider church community.
