Brutal Brixton Attacker Found Guilty of Murder and Multiple Assaults
Mohammed Nur, 34, from Bond Way, SW8, has admitted to murdering Johanita Dogbey and possession of offensive weapons at the Old Bailey on 17 November 2023. Nur was also found guilty of three counts of grievous bodily harm (GBH) for attacks committed just days earlier in Brixton.
Rampage of Violence Hits Brixton in Just Five Minutes
The three GBH offences happened within five minutes on 29 April 2023, when Nur viciously slashed the faces of three victims using a homemade weapon. The assaults struck terror into the Acre Lane area, occurring between 11:25pm and 11:29pm.
Detective Chief Inspector Matthew Webb, who led the investigation, said Nur’s “random and brutal” attacks left the community in fear. Just two days later, on 1 May, Nur used a similar weapon to murder Johanita as she walked in Brixton.
Investigation Brings Justice, Victims Show Incredible Courage
Nur was arrested hours after Johanita’s killing, and despite admitting her murder, he denied the earlier attacks. This forced his victims to relive their trauma in court. DCI Webb praised their bravery, saying:
“The courage they have shown during this entire process, ensuring Nur was made to face up to the violent acts he carried out is inspiring.”
Nur remains in custody and will be sentenced at the Old Bailey on 23 May. The community hopes the lengthy prison term will bring some comfort to Johanita’s family and those injured by Nur’s ruthless spree.
