A Wycombe man has been locked up after a ruthless blackmail attempt in Maidenhead. Harry Michael Bampton, 28, was sentenced to two years and three months behind bars at Reading Crown Court on Tuesday, 24 March.
Threats and Demands
On 16 February, Bampton targeted a vulnerable teen, threatening violence unless he handed over cash. The victim stood firm, but Bampton didn’t back down. He tailed the teen, ramping up threats, then bombarded him with calls and messages demanding money.
Swift Police Action
Bampton was snapped up by Thames Valley Police just a week later on 24 February, the same day he was charged. Detective Constable Lily Ellis praised the victim and witnesses for their bravery.
“The defendant showed no regard for the victim’s welfare and was selfish in his actions focusing on his own personal gain. I am pleased he has been held accountable and now has time to reflect on his behaviour.” – Det Con Lily Ellis
This case highlights the swift justice served to those who prey on vulnerable victims in Berkshire. Bampton’s jail time sends a clear message: Blackmail won’t be tolerated.
