SSPCA Issues Appeal to Locate Owner of Dog Found in Clydebank

The Scottish SPCA has launched an urgent appeal to find the owner of a dog discovered wandering in Clydebank earlier this month.

The male dog, believed to be a Cane Corso, was found in the G81 area on Tuesday, April 15. He was subsequently taken to the Scottish SPCA’s Dunbartonshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre on Dumbarton Road, Milton.

Staff scanned the dog for a microchip and were able to locate one. However, the chip was not registered to any individual, leaving the charity without a way to trace the owner.

A spokesperson for the Scottish SPCA said: “He’s a lovely boy and we’re keen to reunite him with his rightful owner if possible. Unfortunately, without any registered contact details, we’re relying on the public’s help to get him home.”

Public Urged to Help

The charity is now urging anyone who recognises the dog or has information about his owners to get in touch.

“If you recognise this dog or know who he might belong to, please call our helpline on 03000 999 999. Any details, no matter how small, could help us return him home,” the spokesperson added.

The Scottish SPCA also used the incident to highlight the importance of keeping pet microchip details up to date. “We often come across pets with microchips that are never registered or have outdated contact details. This can make the process of reuniting pets with their families incredibly difficult,” they said.

Community Response

Local residents have shared the appeal widely on social media, expressing concern and sympathy for the dog. One user posted: “He looks like such a gentle soul. Hope his owner is found soon.” Another commented, “If he’s not claimed, I hope he finds a loving new home.”

The dog is currently being cared for at the Dumbarton centre, where he will remain while efforts continue to trace his owner. If no one comes forward, he may eventually be placed for adoption.
