A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life following a fire at Erith Pier in south-east London.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 17:00hrs on Friday, 9 May. Officers from the Metropolitan Police responded alongside the London Fire Brigade, who worked swiftly to bring the blaze under control.
A police spokesperson said:

“We are treating this incident seriously due to the potential risk to public safety. Thankfully, no one was hurt, but the consequences could have been far worse.”

Anyone with information, photos or video footage related to the incident is urged to contact Met Police on 101, quoting reference for Erith Pier fire – 9 May, or call Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111.
