Officers received a call to reports of an ongoing disturbance at around 4pm on Friday 5 May 2023.
Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered a man who had been injured. The victim was transported to hospital by colleagues from the North West Ambulance Service, but was later pronounced dead at 5.10pm
A 52-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody for questioning, as investigations into the incident continue.
Superintendent Joe Harrop has stated that detectives from the Major Incident Team are now leading the investigation into the murder. He has also reassured the public that there is no immediate danger to the wider community, as the incident appears to be isolated.
In addition, police have cordoned off a section of Seedley Road, extending from Fitzwarren Street to the site of the incident, and have asked for any witnesses or anyone with CCTV, dashcam, or doorbell footage to come forward and contact them via 101.
This tragic incident has left many residents in the local community shocked and saddened. Greater Manchester Police have assured the public that they will do everything in their power to bring those responsible to justice, and that they are committed to supporting the victim’s family during this difficult time.
