Police Granted Extra Powers Amidst Safety Concerns

A Section 60 stop and search authority has been implemented across the Borough of Lambeth from 11:00 AM today (March 5) until 5:00 AM on March 6, as part of police efforts to prevent further serious violence.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed the temporary measure was authorised by Superintendent Gabriel Cameron following recent incidents of serious violence in the area.

What is a Section 60 Order?

A Section 60 order gives police the power to stop and search individuals without requiring reasonable suspicion. It is typically used in response to incidents of serious violence where there is a risk of further disorder.
