Teenager Killed in Industrial Accident at Biomass Plant
Tragedy struck near Chatteris, Cambridgeshire, when 19-year-old Žavinta Petrašiūtė died in a horrific accident at the Pretoria Energy biomass plant on Monday afternoon.
Emergency crews raced to the scene around 3pm but were powerless to save the young worker.
‘Bright and Hardworking’ Žavinta Remembered with Love
Žavinta’s family paid a moving tribute to their daughter, describing her as “bright, hardworking” and “loved and appreciated by everyone who knew her.”
“We want to express our deepest gratitude to each and every one of you,” her father wrote on Facebook. “During this incredibly painful time of losing our daughter we never expected to receive so much kindness, unity and warmth from so many people.”
“Your moral and financial support has touched us deeply and helped us raise the funds needed to bring our daughter back home. This means more than words could ever express.”
“Since we cannot thank everyone individually, we want to say a big and heartfelt THANK YOU to all who stood by us, supported us and contributed in any way.”
Fundraiser Raises £25,000 to Bring Žavinta Home
A GoFundMe campaign launched to cover repatriation and funeral costs has quickly raised over £25,000.
Organiser Ernestas Mag said: “Alan and Leva have faced an unimaginable tragedy. Their beloved daughter tragically lost her life in a workplace accident.”
“The family’s only wish now is to bring Žavinta back home to Lithuania, so she can be laid to rest close to her loved ones.”
Police and HSE Launch Full Investigation
Cambridgeshire Constabulary confirmed they are investigating the fatal accident. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is also working alongside police to uncover the full circumstances behind Žavinta’s death.
