Tragic Death at Pretoria Energy Biomass Plant

A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded near Chatteris, Cambridgeshire, as 19-year-old Žavinta Petrašiūtė died in a devastating workplace accident at the Pretoria Energy biomass plant on Monday afternoon.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene just after 3pm but couldn’t save the young worker.

Žavinta’s family have described her as “bright and hardworking” and “loved by everyone who knew her.” Her father shared a touching message on Facebook, thanking supporters for their kindness.

“We want to express our deepest gratitude to each and every one of you,” he wrote. “During this incredibly painful time, the kindness, unity and warmth from so many people has been overwhelming.”

“Your moral and financial support has helped us raise the funds needed to bring our daughter home. This means more than words could ever express.”

“Since we cannot thank everyone individually, a big and heartfelt THANK YOU to all who stood by us and contributed in any way.”

£25,000 Raised to Bring Žavinta Home

A GoFundMe campaign launched for repatriation and funeral costs has smashed its target, raising over £25,000 in days.

Campaign organiser Ernestas Mag said: “Alan and Leva have faced an unimaginable tragedy. Their beloved daughter lost her life in a workplace accident.”

“The family’s only wish now is to bring Žavinta back to Lithuania, so she can be laid to rest amongst her loved ones.”

Police and HSE Launch Full Probe into Fatal Accident

Cambridgeshire Constabulary confirmed a full investigation is underway. The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is cooperating to uncover exactly what went wrong at the plant that claimed Žavinta’s life.
