Police have confirmed that the body found in the Bolderwood area of Hampshire on Saturday, 7 June, is that of Yajaira Castro Mendez, a woman reported missing from Ilford.
The 33-year-old was last seen in Camden on Thursday, 29 May. Her disappearance triggered an urgent search and a subsequent murder investigation by the Metropolitan Police.
Formal Identification and Murder Charge
Formal identification was completed today. Yajaira’s family have been informed and continue to receive support from specially trained officers.
Juan Francisco Toledo, 51, of Lambeth, was charged with murder on Friday, 6 June. He appeared at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court and was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on Tuesday, 10 June.
He was arrested on Wednesday, 4 June in Lambeth, just days after the investigation began.
Ongoing Crime Scene and Police Appeal
Detectives continue to work in partnership with Hampshire Police and maintain several active crime scenes.
Acting Detective Chief Inspector Sean Beasley, leading the case, said:
“This is a very sad development in the investigation and our thoughts are very much with Yajaira’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.
“We continue to appeal to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to please come forward.”
