Tragic death on South London streets. Police are hunting for witnesses after a cyclist was fatally hit by a car on Old Kent Road.
Early Morning Collision
At around 6:55 am on Friday, 21 November, emergency crews rushed to the scene near the junction with Dunton Road, SE1. A 34-year-old cyclist was struck by a car and received urgent treatment on site.
Despite paramedics’ best efforts, the cyclist died at the scene. His family has been informed and is receiving specialist support from police officers.
Driver Flees But Later Arrested
The driver, a 68-year-old man, initially fled the crash but was quickly traced by police. He was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
He has since been released on bail as investigations continue.
Police Urge Public to Come Forward
Detective Sergeant Rob Groombridge from the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “An investigation is underway, and officers are working to establish what happened. I’m appealing for anyone who saw the collision, or who may have dashcam footage of it, to please get in touch immediately.”
