Trump Goes on the Offence Against Khan
US President Donald Trump launched a stinging attack on London Mayor Sadiq Khan, calling him a “horrible, vicious, disgusting mayor.” Trump blamed Khan’s election on a surge of migrants, branding him “a disaster” and “incompetent” with a “totally different ideology.”
“He’s done a terrible job. London’s a different place,” Trump declared, hitting out at Khan’s leadership in no uncertain terms.
Trump Slams Europe Over Borders and Political Correctness
The bombastic remarks came as part of Trump’s broader critique of European leaders. He accused them of being “too politically correct” and weak in handling immigration. “I think they want to be so politically correct. I think they don’t know what to do,” Trump said, urging Europe to “get the people out that came into the country illegally.”
His National Security Strategy warned that Europe could be “unrecognisable in 20 years or less” due to demographic changes and economic problems masked by what he calls the “more stark prospect of civilisational erasure.”
Trump Slates Europe’s Ukraine Response
Trump didn’t hold back on Europe’s handling of the Ukraine war either. “Europe is not doing a good job. They talk but they don’t produce. And the war just keeps going on and on. Four years now,” he griped.
He urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to consider ceding land to Russia, claiming Moscow has the “upper hand.” Zelensky, however, firmly rejected any territorial concessions.
Khan Fires Back: “No Idea Why Trump Is Obsessed With Me”
London’s mayor struck a more measured tone but dismissed Trump’s fixation. “I literally have no idea why President Trump is so obsessed with this mayor of London,” Khan said. “I’m not sure what he’s got against a liberal, progressive, diverse, successful city like London.”
Khan did admit one thing: “London is becoming a different place. We are the greatest city in the world,” he added, highlighting record numbers of Americans visiting, investing, and living in the city.
UK Government Hits Back on Ukraine Claims
Downing Street rejected Trump’s jab that Europe is “not producing anything” on Ukraine.
“You’ve seen the number of countries involved in the coalition of the willing discussions,” a Number 10 spokesperson said. “You’ve also seen the UK leading on sanctions, including against the shadow fleet.”
They went on to affirm the UK’s close partnership with the US on trade and security, stressing “the positive outcomes that it has had for the British people.”
