Firefighters were scrambled to Cotmans Close in Hayes just after 8.30pm on Monday, October 21, to tackle a blaze sparked by fireworks.
Massive Fire Response Brings Blaze Under Control
Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from Hayes, Southall, and Hillingdon fire stations battled the flames. The fire was under control by 9.18pm. Ground floor damage was reported, and a garden shed was completely destroyed. Thankfully, no one was hurt.
Fire Chief Warns: Play It Safe This Firework Season
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Paul Askew urged Londoners to stay safe:
“Following a busy week of fireworks-related calls and incidents, we’re urging Londoners to attend safer, organised fireworks displays this year.
Disposing of fireworks safely is just as crucial. Allow them to cool completely before throwing them away.”
London Fire Brigade Calls Surge Amid Fireworks Frenzy
The fire at Cotmans Close is one of many this weekend. The London Fire Brigade revealed they’ve received more than 1,300 calls since Friday, with multiple fireworks-related blazes. Fires have ranged from bins and trees going up in flames to fireworks accidentally detonating inside buildings.
