Grimsby Town Football Club is grieving the heartbreaking loss of one of its youth team members, 16-year-old Cameron Walsh, who tragically lost his life alongside his father, Dave Walsh, in a car crash near Tetney Lock, Grimsby.
The incident occurred on Saturday, January 6, when the vehicle they were travelling in veered off Tetney Lock Road, near the Louth Canal. Both Cameron and his father were pronounced dead at the scene, prompting Lincolnshire Police to appeal for witnesses and dashcam footage.
In an emotional statement, Grimsby Town Football Club paid tribute to the young player and his father, saying, “Grimsby Town Football Club mourns the tragic loss of youth team member and his father. It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that Grimsby Town Football Club announces the untimely passing of one of our cherished youth team members, Cameron Walsh, aged 16, and his father, Dave. The tragic incident occurred on Saturday, 6th January.”
The club expressed its deep sorrow at the loss, describing Cameron as an integral part of the GTFC academy. His passion for the game and undeniable talent had made him a beloved figure among teammates, coaches, and the entire Grimsby Town family.
Grimsby Town announced plans to pay tribute to Cameron and Dave at their upcoming game against Notts County on Saturday, with further details to follow. Additionally, the club acknowledged the outpouring of support from the football community and mentioned the existence of a GoFundMe page set up to support the family.
Cleethorpes Town, where both Cameron and his father had played, also posted a heartfelt tribute. Dave, a popular footballer in the area, had been both a player and a manager at the club. Cameron, a highly talented young player, had begun his career at Cleethorpes Town before joining Grimsby Town’s academy.
