A man has been jailed after a dangerous police pursuit through Melksham, described by officers as among the most shocking driving ever witnessed.

Nathan Law, 42, of Lansdowne, Semington, was sentenced to 12 months in prison at Swindon Magistrates’ Court after he led police on a wild chase in a black Vauxhall Astra on Wednesday, 7 May 2025.

Reckless Driving Endangered Public Safety

Law failed to stop for officers earlier in the day, and although police initially lost sight of his vehicle, it was later spotted on Pathfinder Way in Melksham.

Instead of pulling over, Law sped off again, performing dangerous overtakes, driving the wrong way around roundabouts, and even heading directly towards oncoming traffic.

The pursuit was brought to an end only after deliberate contact was made between Law’s vehicle and a police car.

Charges and Sentencing

Law was arrested at the scene and charged with:

  • Dangerous driving

  • Driving while disqualified

  • Driving without insurance

He pleaded guilty to all charges and was handed a 12-month prison sentence.

He has also been disqualified from driving for five years, five months, and 28 days, and must pass an extended retest before regaining his licence. Additionally, he was ordered to pay a £187 victim surcharge.

Police Statement

PC Ben Greening, from Wiltshire Police’s Roads Policing Unit, said:

“This was some of the most shocking and dangerous driving that I have witnessed in my 11 years of policing. His reckless behaviour showed absolutely no regard for the safety of members of the public.

“He was only brought to a halt following robust action on the part of pursuing officers. We are determined to tackle such offenders and bring them before the courts.”
