Man Jailed After Hair-Raising Police Chase Through Melksham

A dangerous police pursuit through Melksham has landed a man behind bars after officers described his driving as some of the most shocking they’ve ever seen.

Wild High-Speed Chase Ends in Court

Nathan Law, 42, from Lansdowne, Semington, was sentenced to 12 months in prison at Swindon Magistrates’ Court. The dramatic chase unfolded on Wednesday, 7 May 2025, when Law sped off in a black Vauxhall Astra, refusing to stop for police.

Reckless Driving Put Lives at Risk

Law dodged police earlier that day, disappearing from sight before being spotted again on Pathfinder Way in Melksham. Instead of pulling over, he sped off at reckless speeds, executing dangerous overtakes, driving the wrong way around roundabouts, and even heading straight towards oncoming traffic.

The terrifying pursuit only ended when officers deliberately made contact with Law’s vehicle to bring him to a stop.

Charges, Sentence, and Tough Penalties

Arrested at the scene, Law faced multiple charges including:

  • Dangerous driving
  • Driving while disqualified
  • Driving without insurance

He pleaded guilty and was handed a 12-month prison term. On top of that, Law is banned from driving for over five years and must pass an extended driving test before any chance of getting his licence back. He was also slapped with a £187 victim surcharge.

Police Condemn Dangerous Driving

PC Ben Greening from Wiltshire Police’s Roads Policing Unit said:

“This was some of the most shocking and dangerous driving that I have witnessed in my 11 years of policing. His reckless behaviour showed absolutely no regard for the safety of members of the public.

“He was only brought to a halt following robust action on the part of pursuing officers. We are determined to tackle such offenders and bring them before the courts.”
