A police officer who saved the life of a 90-year-old man at the Channel Tunnel, the investigative team behind the response to the Insulate Britain protests, and an officer recognised for his dedication to serving Folkestone and Hythe were among the recipients at Kent Police’s Chief Constable’s Awards Ceremony.
Held on Tuesday, 3 September 2024, at Kent Police College, the event recognised officers and staff who went above and beyond the call of duty.
Detective Chief Inspector David Higham and Detective Sergeant Andy Jennings were honoured for their role in the investigation of the 2021 Insulate Britain protests, which led to significant disruption on the M25 and at the Port of Dover. Their meticulous work resulted in 109 charges being brought against 74 protesters, including 77 Public Nuisance charges—a complex crime that the officers worked tirelessly to secure, setting a national best practice.
PC Nicholas Holley was also recognised for his dedication and professionalism in the Folkestone and Hythe area. PC Holley, who has served for seven years, was named among the top 12 response officers in the country. His efforts included solving a burglary crime series, which led to the arrest of five masked suspects involved in breaking into cafes. PC Holley was awarded the National Police Chiefs Council of Merit award for his unwavering commitment to the local community.
Kent Police Chief Constable Tim Smith presented the awards, praising the recipients for their exceptional service. He said, “I am extremely proud of these officers and staff who have demonstrated outstanding professionalism and dedication. Their endeavours show the different and complex challenges those who work for Kent Police encounter daily.”
He added that these awards represent just a few examples of the extraordinary work done by the entire force, whose commitment helps make a positive difference in the communities they serve.
