A tragic incident in Pontefract has resulted in the death of a man who was seriously injured. Luke Thompson, a 25-year-old resident of Pontefract, passed away in the hospital on Wednesday following an incident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, November 19.
According to initial inquiries, it is believed that Thompson was punched by another male, causing him to fall to the ground on Front Street. Tragically, he was subsequently struck by a black Ford Fiesta and a white Seat Ibiza which were travelling away from Pontefract town centre.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Luke Thompson’s death is now being handled by the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team. Two men, aged 26 and 29, who were arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent, have been released on bail. Additionally, two males, aged 17 and 18, who were previously arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, have also been released on bail.
Detective Chief Inspector James Entwistle, leading the investigation, has appealed for information from the public. He stated, “We are continuing to investigate what took place in Front Street in the early hours of Sunday, November 19, and are keen to hear from anyone who can assist with our enquiries. A young man has now died from his injuries, and we need to understand what happened.”
Authorities are particularly interested in hearing from motorists who were in the area of Pontefract at the time of the incident and may have dash-cam footage that could aid the investigation.
