A man has been locked up for causing death by dangerous driving in a tragic Wolverhampton collision last year. Ryan Griffiths, 29, was struck by a dark VW Golf on Burleigh Road at around 9pm on 21 August 2024. The driver fled the scene after the crash.
Victim Dies After Hit-and-Run
Ryan was rushed to hospital but sadly died two days later from his injuries. Police acted fast, launching an immediate investigation. Their inquiries pointed to Aden Wright, 27, the registered keeper of the Golf, as the driver behind the wheel.
Manhunt, Arrest, and Trial
Authorities recovered the car and conducted forensic tests. A manhunt tracked down Wright within a week, and he was arrested. Despite overwhelming evidence, Wright claimed someone else was driving.
Fourteen Years Behind Bars
Originally charged with murder, Wright’s charge was downgraded to death by dangerous driving by the Crown Prosecution Service. After a trial at Birmingham Crown Court in October, Wright was found guilty. On 4 December, he was sentenced to 14 years in prison and banned from driving.
