Christian Assi, 20, from Lewisham, has been sentenced to 17 years and 10 months in prison for a shocking attack where he shotgunned a teenager after the victim was deliberately knocked off his moped by a car in Brixton. Assi’s accomplice, Edmund Sido, 53, of no fixed address, received a sentence of two years and nine months.
The incident occurred on May 12, 2022, around 7:15 pm, on Brixton Hill SW2. Assi was a passenger in a Range Rover that was chasing the victim’s moped. The driver of the car intentionally struck the 18-year-old rider, causing him to fall to the ground. Subsequently, Assi exited the vehicle brandishing an unlicensed shotgun.
While the victim lay on the ground, Assi fired the shotgun, hitting him in the arm. The severity of the injury necessitated urgent surgery at a hospital.
Following the shooting, Assi fled the scene, still carrying the shotgun. CCTV footage captured him briefly stopping in a doorway to hand the weapon to Sido, who then made his way to a nearby block of flats. Sido was later seen leaving the block without the shotgun.
Assi was apprehended on June 8, 2022, and a search of his property yielded clothing worn during the attack. He was subsequently found guilty of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and received concurrent sentences of 11 years for possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, five years for grievous bodily harm (GBH), and 22 months for possession of a shotgun without a certificate.
Sido, who pleaded guilty to possession of a shotgun on March 13, 2023, was sentenced to 33 months’ imprisonment.
