Beibit Baimolda, a 34-year-old with no fixed address, was found guilty of murdering 42-year-old Oleg Sloboda in Walthamstow last year. The Inner London Crown Court sentenced Baimolda on 20 November to life behind bars, with a minimum term of 18 years.
Brutal Stabbing in Chingford Shocks Community
Police were called at around 9pm on Monday, 6 May 2024, after reports of a disturbance at a property on Cranston Gardens, Chingford. Officers found Oleg Sloboda on the bedroom floor, suffering from multiple stab wounds.
Despite desperate efforts by officers and the London Ambulance Service, Oleg died at the scene. A knife was later recovered nearby.
A post-mortem revealed Oleg had suffered 16 slash and stab wounds to his face and torso.
Investigators Smash Defence Claims With Forensic Evidence
Detective Inspector Luke Hampton, leading the probe, said:
“Oleg leaves behind his son, sister and mother – our thoughts remain with them as they come to terms with their loss. This was a brutal and senseless attack on a man in his own home. Yesterday’s sentence reflects the gravity of Baimolda’s actions and the devastating impact they have had. We hope this brings some justice for Oleg’s family.”
Baimolda claimed self-defence throughout the investigation but refused to give evidence at trial.
Forensic experts employed blood pattern analysis and a detailed examination of the scene to refute his claims. The evidence showed the attack happened where Oleg was found with no signs of a prolonged fight, wiping out Baimolda’s story that he was the one attacked.
On 10 October, a jury found Baimolda guilty of murder unanimously.
Swift Justice Following Shock Kill
Judge Kelleher praised the first officers on scene for their quick actions and efforts to save Oleg.
Baimolda was arrested at the address on the night and charged with murder two days later.
Met detectives revealed that both men spent the day socialising at the property and later went to a local pub before the fatal attack.
