Merseyside Man Jailed After Brutally Stamping to Death a Gull

A ruthless Merseyside man has been behind bars for brutally stamping on and killing a gull in cold blood.

Shocking CCTV Shows Blackpool Attack

Anthony Nurse, from Hurstlyn Road, Liverpool, was caught on CCTV violently kicking a flock of gulls on Springfield Road, Blackpool, last December 17. The footage shows Nurse trapping one gull under his foot, then stamping on it three times before calmly walking off. The poor bird did not survive the savage assault.

The CCTV was handed to the RSPCA, sparking a public hunt for the attacker. Nurse initially denied the charge when questioned but eventually pleaded guilty.

Six-Week Sentencing for Wildlife Crime

At a quiet hearing at Preston Magistrates Court on November 19, Nurse admitted offences under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. Already facing unrelated charges, he was sentenced to six weeks in jail for this cruel crime.

RSPCA Slams Rising Gulls Abuse

“The footage of what happened to this poor gull was distressing to watch,” said RSPCA Inspector Daniel Tomlinson, who led the investigation. “Sadly, gulls are among the most victimised wild birds, with reports of extreme cruelty every three days.”

Tomlinson added: “These birds deserve respect and protection. We urge people to understand their importance and the serious conservation concerns surrounding some species. We will keep fighting to prevent cruelty to all animals — even the misunderstood ones.”
