Merseyside Man Locked Up After Brutally Stamping a Gull to Death
A cold-blooded Merseyside man has been sent to prison for viciously stamping on and killing a gull.
Shocking CCTV Catches Blackpool Bird Attack
Anthony Nurse, from Liverpool’s Hurstlyn Road, was caught on camera violently kicking a flock of gulls on Springfield Road, Blackpool, last December 17. The chilling footage shows Nurse pinning down one gull with his foot before stamping on it three times, then walking off without a care. The poor bird didn’t survive the savage assault.
The CCTV was handed over to the RSPCA, sparking a public manhunt for Nurse. He initially denied the charges but later pleaded guilty.
Six Weeks Behind Bars for Wildlife Crime
At a quiet hearing at Preston Magistrates Court on November 19, Nurse admitted offences under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. Already facing unrelated charges, he was slapped with a six-week jail sentence for this brutal wildlife crime.
RSPCA Condemns Rising Abuse Against Gulls
“The footage of what happened to this poor gull was distressing to watch,” said RSPCA Inspector Daniel Tomlinson, lead investigator. “Sadly, gulls are among the most victimised wild birds, with extreme cruelty reported every three days.”
Tomlinson added: “These birds deserve respect and protection. We urge the public to understand their importance and the serious conservation concerns surrounding some species. We’ll keep fighting to stop cruelty to all animals — even the most misunderstood.”
