A motorist walked away unscathed after a terrifying high-speed crash near Wigton, Cumbria on Saturday night. The driver lost control, smashing into a tree about 10 feet up the trunk before the car came to rest nearly 50 feet down the road. The impact was so severe that the engine was hurled another 10 to 20 feet away.

Driver Arrested for Drug-Driving

Despite the dramatic smash, the driver escaped without serious injury but failed a roadside drug wipe for cannabis. Cumbria Police promptly arrested him on suspicion of drug-driving and possession of cannabis.

Operation Limit Cracks Down on Drink and Drug Drivers

The crash coincides with the launch of Cumbria Police’s Operation Limit, a campaign targeting drink and drug drivers threatening lives on the roads. Last year, more than 200 motorists were arrested under this operation.

Police warn: Don’t risk being part of this year’s drug or drink-driving statistics. Stay safe, stay sober behind the wheel.
